New Gear: Canon RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1L IS USM

The long reach. A 100-500 zoom that finally lets me cover everything from medium telephoto out to wildlife and sports range without swapping bodies.
It's lighter than I expected for the focal range. The variable aperture (f/4.5-7.1) is the trade-off for the size, but the R5 handles the higher ISOs cleanly enough that I don't miss the extra stop. Plus the IS is rated for around five stops, so even at 500mm I can hand-hold in surprisingly dim light.
First targets: birds along the river and the kid's soccer matches this spring. Should be a fun lens to live with.
